How patience helped ordinary people become extraordinary

When we face a problem, what do we do? We look out for solutions or help. However, some people involve themselves in overthinking, that becomes more problematic. It could lead them to feel anxiety, insomnia, or even impatience. For feeling anxiety and insomnia, some prescriptions can help people to feel those emotions less. However, for impatience, there are none. You can’t visit a doctor and ask him or her to prescribe you some medicines that would increase your level of patience, just like controlling the BP. Sorry to disappoint, but you can’t control your moods involving patience or impatience with medication. Though it’s possible by developing some simple habits. All you have to do is just show some discipline when following the practices that boost a person’s level of patience. Above all, you must know what’s the reason for you to be impatient in a particular situation.

However, simply following some rules and techniques isn’t enough, unless we don’t know what it could do. We will not allow ourselves to adopt something new if we haven’t seen any results that came out from following those habits. Results motivate us to act in order to bring some change in our lives. Having examples in front of us behaves like testimonials, which tells us what’s working and what is not. And it’s the same in the case of developing patience in ourselves.

Therefore, I’m going to share some stories of the most significant people that ever lived or are living on this earth.

Patience stories of successful people

Mahatma was a Gandhi first

When for the first time, Mahatma Gandhi put his feet on the land of Africa, he was not a Mahatma. He was simply Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi — a graduate from University College London in a barrister suit, who believed himself a Briton first, and an Indian second. But it didn’t take long for him to face the reality that people would judge you not upon your grades or academic but upon your skin tone. Would keep you out to access the facilities. Threw you out from the train even if you had a first-class ticket. Because you’re not white or belong to royals.

This kind of behaviour coming from the ruling party involving discrimination towards people like him happened on various accounts. Such as beatings, mockings, pressuring people to do things that were not helpful to anyone. But when the limit of prejudice exceeded, he decided to turn the table. And after spreading the word of revolution into the minds of the Africans, he came back to India to start his own revolution — The Great Indian Independence Revolution.

Though it was not easy for him to start, he had to give up everything that belonged to the Britishers. However, he did it with passion because, after all, how hard it would be for someone to embrace the motherland. So, he threw away his barrister suit and wore himself in a khadi dhoti, woven by his own spinning wheel. And motivated all the people of the nation to do the same.

And this is how Gandhi’s revolution took the shape of fire. But with that started the season of beatings, locking up the revolutionaries, and plotting against Gandhi to stop him. The Britishers were also not leaving India that easily. They were continuously doing everything in their power to change Gandhi’s mind of an independent India. They even put him inside the jail to do so. But Gandhi was so determined to bring Swaraj in India that if God had come to earth to change his course, he would have not done that for a second.

Where he was raising his voice against the British rule non-violently. There were other great Indian revolutionaries in different parts of the country fighting the same emperor for the Indian Independence violently.

The cause was the same, pure and noble. However, the revolutionaries who had rage and anger in them didn’t succeed. Their path and journey for Independence got hindered. Why? Because something was missing in their struggle. And it was patience. Those great leaders, folk heroes, and revolutionists wanted Independence in a day. As soon as possible. Whereas Gandhi was patiently doing his work. Making his movement strong without any violence. Though he was, too, angry with the Britishers, he was also patient to get Indian Independence. Patient enough to walk 240 miles barefooted to the Dandi to tell the rulers that they don’t need them for salt because they can make their own. They don’t need them to rule because they can take care of their motherland on their own. And that’s what made him from Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi — meaning the great soul of all.

This all happened because he kept patience in his persistence. And just like him, there were many ordinary people who, by harnessing the power of perseverance, became incredible.

Abraham Lincon

Just like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincon was too non-violent as well as a nobleman. He raised his voice against slavery, and it took almost more than a decade for him to make the United States Of America, we know now, free for everyone.

Pelé

For Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pelé. It took almost 9 years to fulfil his promise he made when he was only 10 years old to his father to win the FIFA World Cup.

James Cameron

Everyone likes James Cameron’s films, there’s merely someone who doesn’t. And to be honest, there’s really something special about his film making. You can’t save yourself from adoring him. But, we don’t like his movies because he makes excellent pieces of art. Else, we want and love to see his films because he takes time to create them.
